Principal's Message

Hello Lancer Nation! I’d like to introduce myself and share my excitement about being a John Glenn Patriot and North Scott Lancer! My passions for student learning, empowering teachers to be the best they can be, and adoration for this community have all intersected, and I am extremely proud to be the principal of John Glenn Elementary. I was born and raised in the Quad Cities and have lived in the area most of my life. My husband Jim is a North Scott graduate and we both hold this district close to our hearts! My family is full of Iowa Hawkeye fans (especially football), and my grandfather, mother, and I are all alumni of the University of Iowa. I’ve dedicated my life to working with and for children as an educator, leader, and advocate. As the daughter of a third-grade teacher, my love for and appreciation of education has always been at the forefront of my values. I recognize how fortunate I am to be a part of an educational system that opens doors and offers opportunities for our next generations to succeed in this world.

I believe that each and every student is capable of learning, and that it is the responsibility of educators to relentlessly ensure that this occurs in our schools. Each and every child has strengths that can be built upon and is deserving of a high-quality education. Educators must maintain the highest of expectations as they prepare each student for his or her future in a world that is ever-changing, and educators must work collaboratively to achieve success. Caregivers are an integral part of this collaboration! As we work together to prepare our students for the future, we must commit to helping students learn to learn, fostering communication and collaboration, and empowering students to continuously seek understanding. We must instill in students the value of learning from others in our global community, which is rich in diversity and opportunities. When we leverage our many differences to improve collective understanding and view every experience as one that can be learned from, we make our world a better place.

I look forward to learning with you and working together to make a positive difference in the lives of our John Glenn students. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, concerns, feedback, or suggestions! Go Lancers!

Sincerely,

Erin Paysen
